DOGTV, a 24-hour, canine-only TV channel, has arrived in San Diego. The new pet programming, which launched on Cox and Time Warner digital cable in February, aims to keep dogs happy and stress-free while their humans are out. By using special audio and video features—reels of dogs playing fetch for stimulation, soothing images of sleeping pups and low-volume sounds like doorbells and vacuums—DOGTV provides a kind of companionship for dogs who may be left alone for much of the day. It can also help stressed or anxious dogs acclimate to various stimuli; however, severely phobic or aggressive dogs should be monitored before they are left unattended with any programming that may trigger a problem. DOGTV is currently free, though it will eventually require a paid subscription. You can find it on Time Warner’s “On Demand” channel 148. Select “My Home” and then “DOGTV.” Cox subscribers can view the dog-friendly programming on channel 2635. Enjoy!
